History of the School

GEMS Bolitho School was founded in 1889 moving to its current site, a former Bolitho family home in 1918. The school retains its links with the family with Mrs Elizabeth Bolitho being the current Patron. It has been through various forms prior to GEMS Education UK purchasing the school in 2009. Much has changed over the years but the long standing belief in academic excellence supported by the development of the whole self still sets the tone for what is a truly great school.

Today the school is a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged from 3 months to 18 years. We provide academic excellence with a strong pastoral and cross-curricular emphasis and a global dimension inspired by the International Baccalaureate offered to our sixth form students as a globally accepted university pathway. Our extensive extra-curricular programme offers opportunities for students to try new things, or excel in things in which they are already involved.
