Islamic Education at JPS

Our vision

We hope every Muslim student at JPS is proud to be a Muslim and learns the basic knowledge of the religion. Our aim is acknowledge all Muslim students regarding the pillars of Islam, the Islamic faith and morals and is able to efficiently apply to life. To increase the knowledge of Islam we share with the children, the stories of prophets, manners of living in a Muslim's life, the five pillars of Islam such as faith and others. We also pay attention to the religious occasions such as Eid Al-fitar and Eid Aladha, so that the children realise their importance and value.

Also we encourage the children to respect and memorize the Holy Quran by organizing competitions because the Holy Quran builds character and conscience of a true Muslim. Therefore, the Department of Islamic Education has started a competition for students of Years 3 to 6, who take Islamic Studies. The competition, which covers the Thirtieth Part of the Holy Quran, will have two phases. The first phase will cover up to the end of Chapter II and will be completed by the end of March every year. The second phase, up to the end of Chapter III, will be completed by the end of  June every year. We are asking parents to encourage the children to complete the card which is attached to their Islamic Book. There will be prizes at the end of the contest for those children who have mastered the Thirtieth part of the Quran.

For Islamic Education, we have 40 minutes sessions three times for Key Stage1 and two times for Key Stage 2 in the week. We have 9 teachers to teach Islamic in school who are friendly and kind. We have specialized two class rooms for Islamic teaching and have a prayer room. In addition we use the regular class rooms.

Our resources

We use the Ministry curriculum, workbooks and text books for KS1, KS2.
For teaching we use Islamic stories to teach children about Islam. For this purpose we use internet, smart board and white board to name a few. Every lesson we recite some Surahs of Quran and explain the meaning about them in detail. We have an assessment plan in place for KS1, KS2.
