The ICT Department at JPS

The vision of ICT at JPS is to improve learning outcomes through cross curricular application of ICT to prepare students with the process skills to deliver success for an ever evolving global environment of information and technology.

We aim to provide our students with the access to modern technology to enable them to leave school as confident, responsible and safe e-learners. Technology is embedded into lesson planning to promote ICT as a tool for engaging the students and enriching their learning. We make use of the many ICT learning pods, ICT labs and interactive White Boards to enhance learning and increase the familiarity of using up-to-date technology.

The children are regularly given the opportunity to use data logging equipment to track and reflect on learning.

Foundation Stage
The ICT experience is delivered in the comfort of their familiar environment and through small computer pods specially set up for the Early Years. Students are introduced to basic computer skills and terminology while using interactive programs and also use specialist cameras to record pictures.

Key Stage 1
Students receive at least one lesson per week in the ICT lab, led by their classroom teacher. They also have access to a computer pod and portable equipment on a daily basis. KS1 have access to a wide variety of engaging software to support cross-curricular learning, whilst acquiring key ICT skills.

Key Stage Two
The aim is to increasingly embed ICT in the regular lessons using small pods throughout each year group’s corridors. Portable equipment like, digital cameras and DSI’s are used in addition to specialist ICT lessons in a fully equipped computer lab.

GEMS Learning Gateway

The GLG (Gems Learning Gateway) is an interactive website for our students, parents and teachers. It serves as an information storage system, allowing for Home Learning, Newsletters and other weekly communications to be stored centrally and easily accessible to all of our school community. Furthermore it is also used as a learning resource where teachers support both children and parents with learning materials relevant to the Topics being covered in classes. An additional feature is the ability for parents and students to upload their own work and learning materials onto the website for all to share. This and much more on our GLG!

GEMS ICT Academy

The GEMS ICT Academy is available to all GEMS parents, to provide training in a wide range of computer related subjects. The courses on offer are designed to cater for all levels of ability from Computer Basics for novice or nervous computer users through to Web Design for more experienced users.
